Nanotechnology in bioscience and agricultural

 What is Nanotechnology? 

Ans Nanotechnology is the use of science, engineering and technology at the nanoscale, or between 1 and 100 nanometers.If we bring down an element or material  will start showing  different and new properties and can be used in various  fields like chemistry, physics, biology, material science, health and agriculture. 

Advantages of Nanotechnology in Bioscience:

1). Nano pumps are helpful to remove blood blockage in the  body.

2). Nano carbon are promising delivery systems for targeted drug delivery and nerve cell regeneration in biomedical applications. 

3). They can produce virus killing masks.

4). Silver nano crystal is applied on burning, this in turn, kills bacteria and stops infection. 

Advantages of Nanotechnology in Agriculture:

1). Nano fertilizers can increase agronomic productivity and efficiency, e.g.,efficiency of Liquid Nano Urea (developed by IFFCO) is expected to be around  85_90%.

2.This technology can reduce  the use of pesticides in agriculture. 

3. Carbon nanotubes can reduce the quantity of chemicals added to plants.

4) Nano material can  detect the disease in the plant and improve the plant's  nutrient absorbing  capacity. 

5) Provide greater dividend to poor countries in terms of agriculture growth. 

Applications of nano technology in agriculture

1) Crop improvement using Nano__ technology. 

2) Crop growth and productivity using nano fertilizers.

3) Crop protection by nano pesticide

4). With the help of Nanotechnology  genome of a crop variety can be developed. 

Example:Change meiosis University of Thailand has changed the colour of rice by making a nano hole in the rice cell.

 6) .Nano fertilizers are more effective, require less quantity and has minimum pollution. 

Nano Liquid Urea: Recently IFFCO( Indian Farmers Fertilizer cooperative  limited) has developed the world's first Nao Urea Liquid.

It has following benefits over normal Urea:

1) It is required  50% less in terms of cost.

2) It is  80% efficient  but normal Urea is 40% efficient

 3) It can increase the productivity of crop fields by 8% 

4) It will decrease the dependency  on Urea impory

 5) Nano pesticides can manage the pest in better ways.Because it is based on a targeted delivery system, and it will kill only the harmful insects.

Apart from these, this technology has application in fields like defense, disaster  management etc.Indian government initiatives like Nation Mission Nano Science and Technology (2007), and the International conference on Nano Science and Technology (ICONSAT) are integrating nanotechnology with sustainable development. Schemes like AWSAR can augment its potential  across India.
